Halloween is upon us which means its time for everything spooky. But sometimes it hard to get in the mood when you still see green leaves on the trees and it still feels warm out. But don’t get too frustrated, cause soon enough you will wake up to yellow and orange leaves and cold weather. So here’s a list I curated of some TV shows that have helped me get in the Halloween mood and some TV shows that other people have told me about.
1. Charmed (The Original Version)
Charmed is my absolute favorite show and I watch it religiously every year to get me in the Halloween mood. This show premiered during the late 90s so you will notice that it is a little dated in some aspects of the show, but it is still so good. And who doesn’t love a show from the 90s?
This show is about 3 sisters who discover that they are witches. The show then focuses on these sisters figuring out witchcraft, trying to live normal lives all while fighting demons who are trying to kill them/take their powers. All I have to say is WATCH IT.
There are 8 seasons and is currently available to watch on Netflix.
2. Supernatural
Supernatural has been around for what feels like forever. It is about two brothers who hunt down supernatural beings. Think of it as a crime tv show but with the addition of supernatural beings as murderers.
There are 15 seasons and is available to watch on Netflix
3. Buffy the Vampire Slayer
This is another 90s TV show and it really shows. But it was very popular back when it was showing on tv and it still is now. This show is about a high school girl who has been chosen to be the vampire slayer, a job where she kills any vampires who may be causing trouble. At the same time, she is struggling to live her normal high school life while keep her true identity a secret.
There are 7 seasons and is available on Hulu
4. The Vampire Diaries
Back when I was in high school, I was obsessed with this show. It’s based on a book, with the same title. This show centers around a high school girl named Elena, who meets two mysterious brothers who are keeping a secret. These two boys are new to town and when they arrive weird things seem to be happening and for some reason, Elena becomes the center of all the drama.
There are 8 seasons and is available on Netflix
5. The Originals
This show is a spin-off of The Vampire Diaries. This show revolves around the Original Vampires who were first introduced to us in the Vampire Diaries. It follows the siblings are they move to New Orleans and try to rule the city.
There are 5 seasons and is available on Netflix
6. American Horror Story
This show has Halloween horror written all over it. What’s cool about it is that every season is a different storyline, so you can start watching any season you want and not be worried about missing a piece of the storyline. Each season is themed with something scary such as a haunted house, an asylum and a circus. Definitely recommend for horror fans.
PS: Beware that there are jump scares scattered throughout this show.
There are 8 seasons available on Netflix and 9 seasons available on Hulu
7. Motherland: Fort Salem
This is a new show that has been premiering on Freeform. It centers around a world in which the Salem witch trials never happened. Witches were accepted as part of society. Now in present day, the members of the military are witches who were chosen to enlist. The show follows three witches who have enlisted in the army and follows them as they navigate their new lives as soldiers and witches while at the same time preparing for an oncoming war.
There is 1 season and is available on Hulu
8. Stranger Things
I don’t think I have met one person who hasn’t watched this show. It’s a MUST WATCH! This show is about a group of kids who live in a small town of Indiana. A mysterious girl appears and seems to not know basic things, but she does have these weird powers. Soon enough the group discovers that there are even weirder things happening in town and it’s up to them to figure out what is going on and how to stop it. Syfy fans this one’s for you!
There are 3 seasons and is available on Netflix
9. The Order
A Netflix original, this show is about a guy who begins college and gets mixed up in the supernatural happenings that exist within the campus. Anyone like witches and werewolves? Well if so, this show is for you.
There are 2 seasons available on Netflix
10. The Haunting of Hill House
This one I have not personally seen because I do not like scary/paranormal shows or movies. But from what I understand, the storyline is about a family who had experienced a haunting in their house and the show explores their memories of what had happened in that house.
11. The Magicians
Now, the title of this show is kind of misleading. I know when I first read the title, I was not interested because personally, I don’t find magicians entertaining. BUT this show is about people with actual magic, think of a witchy type magic. The show follows this guy who had been obsessed with this series of books about these kids with magic. He then discovers that it was actually based on real events and even cooler, he discovers he is able to perform magic, making him what they call in the show a magician. He ends up enrolling in a school for magicians in order to practice and control his magic only to get caught up in a bunch of crazy events that only he and his friends can help resolve (think end of the world events). This show is pretty unique in how they go about showing how the characters perform magic.
There are 4 seasons and is available on Netflix
12. The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina
Another must watch! This show is a spin-off of Sabrina the teenage witch that premiered back in the 90s. But the difference is, that this version is a lot spookier and sexier plus Salem the cat doesn’t have the ability to talk. I was a bit skeptical at first, but they really did this spin off justice! The show focuses on Sabrina as she makes the biggest decision of her life, stay in her human world and lose her powers or embrace her witchyness and leave her human world forever in favor of life worshipping the Devil and being all witchy-like. SO GOOD!
There are 3 seasons and its available on Netflix
13. The Bates Motel
Another show I personally have not seen but I have heard only good things about it. This show is intended to be a prequel to the Psycho film and follows Norman Bates. It explores the years leading up to Norman becoming a serial killer. This show is creepy, scary and weird. Perfect for Halloween.
There are 5 seasons and is available on Netflix
So, there you have it! 13 shows that will definitely get you in the Halloween spirit. Comment below if you have other suggestions! I am always looking for more Halloween TV shows to binge.
